Who doesn’t love the idea of being a mermaid? It’s ingrained in all our young minds from an early age by Sebastian the crab!
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin’
Full time to floatin’
Under the sea
– Sebastian, The Little Mermaid
So, when I saw that 100% Pure had a Mermaid palette, obviously I needed it ASAP. It quickly became one of my summer beauty essentials! It’s got such beautiful, colorful shades all inspired by the beach and a mermaid’s tail.
I talked about this palette before, so I decided to show a fun look you could create using all my 5 summer beauty essentials. Mermaid-inspired bold colors in greens, corals, and teal! It’s not an everyday look, but something fun for summer. It would be perfect for a summer festival, concert, or girls night out!
Plus, I just launched my YouTube channel! I created a video tutorial for this look, so you can follow along with the video if you prefer. The written instructions are still below!
How to Create a Mermaid-Inspired Makeup Look Using Organic Beauty
Apply Your 100% Pure BB Cream
A perfect blend of primer, SPF, and lightweight foundation. I put it to the test recently during my photo shoot session for the blog in near 100-degree weather… And after 4 hours of heat, fitness, and photos, it still looked flawless enough to go to dinner after for a date night with my hubby. I was impressed! I use it in Aglow.
Use as much or as little as you want to give you the coverage you’re happy with. I used less at first and then applied a bit more in a few red areas. Blend with your fingers or use a beauty blender sponge.
Touch up with FitGlow Conceal+
First off, use only a LITTLE. FitGlow’s brand-new concealer is not only long-lasting, full-coverage, and water-resistant but extremely concentrated. A little will get the job done. I only applied it under my eyes and on a couple spots for acne coverage. I use the shade is C2 (Light).
Set Your Base with 100% Pure Full Coverage Healthy Foundation
Depending on your skin type, you may be able to skip this step. Or only apply powder in problem spots, like around the nose. But I’m normal-to-oily and typically powder my whole face to set my foundation and concealer in place. I use the 100% Pure Full Coverage Healthy Foundation in Peach Bisque.
Get your Summer Glow with Au Naturale Pure Powder Bronzer
I use the color Kissed from Au Naturale, and I love this powder bronzer. It’s lightweight and has a nice, soft shimmer. When I got it, I was worried it was going to look a bit orangey, but it ended up being the perfect shade!
I sweep it on under my cheekbones, along my hairline line, the sides of the bridge of my nose, and along my jawline.
Use a Fan Brush to Apply Au Naturale Pure Powder Highlighter
You could also use your ring finger to apply it for more intensity. This is a brand-new highlighter in Aura from Au Naturale’s summer collection. It matches so well with the coral tones I used in the rest of the look! This powder is super shimmery and amazing and has major glow payoff.
Sweep it on the tops of your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, above the arch of your eyebrows and your cupid’s bow.
Swirl in your Coral blush from the 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Mermaid Palette
I love coral tones for summer. Using the Coral blush from the 100% Pure Mermaid palette, I use a blush brush to swirl it on the apples of my cheeks up to my hairline. I wanted some mega color payoff, so I went pretty heavy-handed with the color.
Lightly Pencil in Your brows Using Burt’s Bees Eyebrow Pencil
I use the eyebrow pencil in Brunette, and use soft strokes to give light definition to my brows. Because the look is so colorful, I didn’t want super bold brows for this one. You could even skip penciling them in and just brush your brows to tame them and remove any foundation or powder that may have snuck in earlier.
Sweep on Your Eyeshadow Base Color in Shell
Shell is a beautiful color from the mermaid palette that reflects brown, gold and green tones all in one. So sweep it across your lids and crease to make a great shimmery base. I used a fluffy eyeshadow brush to do this.
Use Your Ring Finger to Apply your bold Green hue in SeaGlass
I LOVE this color. Don’t shy away from the green because you think it’s too much or because “green is for green eyes.” Nope! Rock that color. Use your ring finger to pat it onto your eyelids for concentrated color.
Use a Small Eyeshadow Brush to Apply StarFish to your crease and Lashline
This lovely chocolate-purple hue adds a fun contrast to the green when applied to the lash line and crease. I applied it in a > shape from about the center of my eye out. It doesn’t have to be precise – a little messy and smokey is okay.
Add your fun Pop of Aqua with Au naturale Swipe-On Essential Eye Pencil
Using the Essential Eye Pencil in High Tide, sweep it along the entire bottom lash line and flick out at the outer corner to create a bottom-lash cat eye. Think like creating an ~ at the end of your line outward, but not touching your eyeshadow. You want a tiny gap between your shadow and the aqua liner.
Apply the color heavy-handedly — this is what completes the Mermaid look, and you want it to be bold.
Swipe On the Au Naturale Essential Eye Pencil in White
Use the Au Naturale eye pencil in Cararra to make your eyes look bigger and define your aqua liner! Sweep the white pencil on your bottom waterline. Then, create a straight line at the outer edge of your eye between your eyeshadow and aqua liner to make your eyes and the color pop.
Create Mega Lashes with w3ll People Expressionist Mascara
Apply 2 – 3 coats of Expressionist Mascara by W3ll People to your lashes. Make sure to first coat the top of your lashes for depth. Then work it into the roots to make your mascara look thick and even by scrubbing it into the lash line well.
Line your Lips and Apply the Beautiful Sunset Cruise Lipstick from Burt’s Bees
Use your favorite lip liner (I use Au Naturale Lip Liner in Marrakesh) and then apply a rich coral lipstick to tie it all together. My favorite coral is Sunset Coral from Burt’s Bees, which matches the Coral blush from the Mermaid palette!
